Breckinridge County Herald-News, Hardinsburg, Ky dated Wednesday, July 3, 2002 Mrs. Janet STIKELEATHER WACHTEL, age 83, died on Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at Rankin Medical Center, Brandon, Mississippi, (in Rankin County). Memorial services will be held at a later date to be announced at Bethel United Methodist Church in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Mrs. WACHTEL was born in Asheville, North Carolina, but was raised in Kingswood, (Breckinridge County), Kentucky. She married Edgar M. WACHTEL on August 17, 1938 at the Kingswood Holiness Church (now the Wesleyan Church). She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Spartanburg where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Chancel Choir. She was former president of the Spartanburg Music Club, sang in an ensemble, and was a member of the Lions Club Auxiliary. She was also a member of NSDAR, MSSDAR, Chief Red Jacket Chapter, Brandon, Mississippi. She was an avid photographer, and played the piano and mandolin. She will be remembered for her blonde curls, and her resemblance to Shirley Temple as a child. She had lived in Brandon the last three years. Mrs. WACHTEL is survived by: her sister, Esther S. Mrs. Whitler was born in Fordsville on February 24, 1905, a daughter of the late William F. DeHaven and Rose Lee Smallwood DeHaven. She was a member of the Cloverport United Methodist Church and the Cloverport Homemakers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmanuel Charles (Pete) Whitler in 1950, sons Pat in 1950, Bud (Bones) in 1984, Jimmie in 1991, Tony, Bill and a daughter, Carol Robinson in 1981. Survivors are three daughters, Sandra Robinson, Drakesboro, Mary K. Mitchell, Placerville, CA, and Nancy Haley of Walton; 17 grandchildren, and 31 great-grandchildren.
