He was a retired Army veteran, a member of the Harned United Methodist Church, a member of Custer Masonic Lodge, and also retired from Lincoln Insurance Company. He was a farmer and carpenter, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, freed slave Oscar Miller. He drove mule teams for the Bandy farm and worked on construction projects from residences to highways and schools. When blacks received the right to vote, he helped register voters for the Democratic Party. He was a member of the Church of the Living God where he served as a deacon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Wells Jones; four brothers, Lewis Jones, Jim Jones, John Jones and Bobby Jones; and three sisters, Lily Brown, Matlida Bowman and Clara Pendleton. Mr. Jones is survived by six daughters, Maxine (Marvin) Rowe, Irvington, Nell Sanderson, Radcliff, Rita Taylor, Louisville, Ora Jean Speight, Columbus, Ohio, Lisa Dubose, Las Vegas, Nev., and Debra Gardner, Germany; a son, Bernard Gardner, Louisville; 29 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The cause of death has been ruled an apparent suicide from carbon monoxide poisoning, according to County Coroner, Bob Rhodes, who pronounced JONES dead at the scene around 5 p.m. Rhodes said the man had been dead about 6 hours. Breckinridge County Sheriff Bobby D. Kennedy said the victim was last seen alive around 8 a.m. on Thursday. JONES'S wife, Barbara, found her husband in the cab of his truck when she returned home from work around 4 p.m.. The pickup was sitting in the driveway of the JONES home located on the Locust Hill-Woodrow Road. Mrs. Jones notified the sheriff's office at 4:18 p.m., Kennedy said. According to Sheriff Kennedy, a pipe had been stuck into the exhaust of the truck, then a rubber hose attached to the pipe and run around the edge of the pickup door into the cab. He was going to Walnut Grove to attend the funeral of his brother. While riding along the road his horse stumbled and fell. In the fall, Mr. Jordan was fastened beneath the horse, and his leg was broken. Mr. Jordan is 80 years of age, and is quite feeble.
