Breckinridge County Herald-News, Hardinsburg, Ky., Wednesday, October 23, 1985 OBITUARY AUTO ACCIDENT IS FATAL TO CECIL GALLOWAY-- A one-vehicle accident on Wednesday, October 16, 1985, at 10:38 p.m. on the New Bethel Road about 4 miles north of Hardinsburg, claimed the life of a 25- year-old Locust Hill man, and seriously injured another. Cecil Craig Galloway was pronounced dead on arrival at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital, Hardinsburg, after the northbound automobile in which he was riding went off the left side of the roadway, hit a road tile, and flipped over on its top, skidding several hundred feet, according to Breckinridge County Sheriff Bobby Kennedy. Galloway was apparently thrown from the vehicle, stated Kennedy. Terry W. Laslie, 27, of Hardinsburg, the driver of the 1978 Chevrolet, was taken to the local hospital suffering from back injuries and was airlifted to Humana Hospital University. According to a family member, Laslie underwent surgery to replace a vertebrae in his back on Monday, October 21. He will undergo a second operation in about two weeks when a steel pin will be placed in his back. He remains in the Intensive Care Unit, according to a family member. A third person in the vehicle, John Shartzer, 34, of Route 2, Hardinsburg, was treated and released at the local hospital. Galloway was born in Breckinridge County on October 26, 1959, a son of Joe and Ruth Nell Drane Galloway of Locust Hill, who survive. Also surviving are: three sisters He was a 1977 graduate of Breckinridge County High School. He attended Memphis State University, Memphis, Tennessee, and Jefferson Community College, Louisville where he majored in Commercial Art, and maintained a 4.0 grade point average. Galloway was an honorary member of Phi Theta Kappa, and will be formerly inducted, posthumously on November 20, 1985 at Jefferson Community College. He has acted and starred in various plays including "The Cherry Orchard" and "Senator and Steelworker", in Louisville. Several of his artworks have been published in the "Louisville Courier- Journal" and other publications. In addition, he designed the cover of the Jefferson Community College Theater Bulletin, "Lunch Hour". She was born in Breckinridge County on July 22, 1923, the daughter of the late Henry Ward FRANK and Myrtle MILAM FRANK. She is retired from Galante Studio of Hardinsburg, and enjoyed gardening, cooking, and trying new recipes. Helen was a member of the Kingswood Wesleyan Church. She was born in Woodrow, in Breckinridge County, on August 19, 1933, to Vic DRANE and Fannye Lee DYER DRANE. She attended Breckinridge County High School, graduating in 1950, and married to the late Joseph Earl GALLOWAY in 1955. Ruth Nell studied elementary education in Brescia College, and Western Kentucky University. She taught 1st grade at Hardinsburg Elementary School, and remedial reading, and substitute teaching at schools around the county. She later operated family businesses with her husband, Joe, including Galloway General Store in Kingswood; Seating, Frame Mart; and Pegasus Pictures. Ruth Nell was a former member of Homemakers, and was passionate about sewing, quilting, travel, gardening, and collecting antiques. She loved to write Poetry. Her quilt art was exhibited around the country. Born February 17, 1902, in Breckinridge County, Mrs. Glasscock was a daughter of the late Riley and Mary Armes Tucker. She was a retired restaurant owner and operator and was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church. Her husband, Wade Glasscock, preceded her in death on August 11, 1997, also a daughter, Imogene Vittitoe.Surviving are a son, Marvin Glasscock, Louisville; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 3 from Trent-Dowell Funeral Home, Hardinsburg, with burial in the Cave Spring Cemetery at Westview. ****************************** Breckinridge County Herald-News, Hardinsburg, Ky., Wednesday, August 7, 1996 House Fire Page 1 HARNED MAN DIES IN MORNING FIRE-- Aaron (should be Byron) "Kelly" Glenn age 27 of Kingswood, died from apparent smoke inhalation, at his residence, in an early morning fire, August 8, 1996 (should be August 6, 1996). According to Harned Fire Chief Jesse Pile, firemen were called to the scene of a free burning fire in Kingswood subdivision just after 6 a.m. Pile said when his men arrived fire was visible, and flames were coming out one window. "We preceded to make an attack, first on the outside, and then on the inside" Pile said. Pile continued, "This was when we discovered the deceased. At that time....I requested a coroner," Pile said. Firemen were able to contain the fire to one room, however Pile said other portions of the house suffered heat, water, and smoke damage. It was then, Pile continued, "I followed state procedures, and called for an arson investigator and an officer from the state fire marshal's office. I also called for a county law enforcement officer. Breckinridge County Sheriff Bobby Kennedy said, "I got the call about 6:20 a.m., and my job when I arrived at the scene was to keep the peace while everyone did their jobs. We were also trying to make certain there was no foul play". Sheriff Kennedy would not rule out foul play, and said "I haven't heard from the (Kentucky State Police) arson investigator." Breckinridge County Coroner Bob Rhodes, who said he arrived at the scene at about 7 a.m. indicated there would be an autopsy. Official results could take up to 6 weeks, however, Rhodes did say he had ruled at the scene, Glenn's death was caused by smoke inhalation. Pile said the investigation of the fire's cause is continuing.
