Breckinridge County Herald-News, Hardinsburg, Ky., Wednesday, October 29, 1986 Page 1, OBITUARY TWO HUDSON MEN KILLED IN ONE-VEHICLE ACCIDENT Two Hudson men were killed in a one-vehicle accident on Tuesday night, October 22, 1986 (Tuesday was October 21, 1986), on Highway 690, 1 1/2 miles east of the Mook Community of Breckinridge County. Pronounced dead at the scene were Gary Allen CARMAN, 40, and Charles Melvin LUCAS, 47. Breckinridge County Deputy Sheriff Kenny BLAIR said CARMAN, driving a 1963 one-ton Chevrolet pickup, was apparently traveling at a high rate of speed, and appeared to have lost control of the vehicle on a curve, skidded 120 feet or more, turning over twice before coming to rest upright several feet off the road in a field on property owned by Eugene FENTRESS. Both CARMAN and LUCAS were thrown from the vehicle. LUCAS'S body was found some 40 feet from the wreckage. CARMAN'S body was found about 10 feet away. Terry TUCKER, also of Hudson, came upon the accident about 10:00 p.m. and reported it to authorities. However, BLAIR said the exact time the accident occurred is not known. See obituaries on page 7. Page 7 Charles Melvin LUCAS, age 47, of Hudson in Breckinridge County, died on Tuesday, October 21, 1986, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Breckinridge County that day. He was born in Breckinridge County on September 13, 1939, a son of the late Kelly LUCAS and Mrs. Lena Pearl LUCAS of Hudson, who survives. Additional Comments: Notice little Jesse's death date in his death notice and his tombstone is different. I decided to go with the death date in his death notice, hoping the date is correct. It is hard to make out the true number of 8 and 3, when the stone is so old. The only way to make sure is to check his tombstone. She was 102 years old on October 2, 1962. Funeral services will be held at Locust Hill today at 2 p.m. Mrs. CARMAN was born October 2, 1860. She remembered many incidents of the war between the states, and often told of them. Until she contracted pneumonia a few days ago, Mrs. CARMAN was active. Her hearing was perfect, her eyesight was remarkably good; she was able to walk about her home and do housework. A few years ago she broke an arm, and in a few days, went back to the doctor and told him to remove the cast. It was bothering her. She drove a tractor at 92. Mr. CARMAN died 23 years ago. CARMAN was found by passersby on the highway at Locust Hill dead of a gunshot wound. He was shot once in the stomach with a .22 pistol. State Police Sgt. Leo Reynolds was the chief witness at the inquest conducted by County Coroner Joe Trent. He came back to Kentucky, and worked as an equipment operator for the Kentucky State Highway Department.
