BASHAM Stephensport, Dec., 30, (Special) -- W.L. Basham, an aged citizen of this community was stricken with paralysis at his home at an early hour, on Thursday morning, and from this never regained consciousness. Death came at 7 o'clock Friday morning. He was born April 27, 1874 [sic; 1847] in Breckinridge County, and lived in the same county to the time of his death. In 1885 he was married to Miss Malissa B. Shellman, who with his four children survive, namely James T. Basham of Leitchfield, Attorney Paul Basham of Hardinsburg, Mrs. Zeno Miller of Owensboro, and Mrs. W.H. Gibson of Stephensport. All of his children were at his bedside when death came with the exception of one son, Paul, who was ill at his home in Hardinsburg. His death was a shock to the many relatives and friends of the Basham family, for though in feeble health for a number of years, Mr. Basham was as well as usual on Christmas day and was happy in having the annual family reunion when all of the children would gather in the old fashioned country home for the Christmas celebration. Mr. Basham was a kind neighbor and had many friends in the community where his large family had been reared. The funeral was conducted at the home on Saturday morning at 11 o'clock, by the Rev. J. L. Mitchell, pastor of the Stephensport Methodist Church. The burial was held in the Hill cemetery and the grave covered with beautiful floral offerings. Additional Comments: Winston L. Basham was born 27 April 1847 in Kentucky, likely in Breckinridge County, to George Dowell Basham and Susan(nah) Campbell. George Dowell Basham was a son of Bartlett Basham and Rachel Mayberry. Winston L. Basham was buried in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Stephensport, Breckinridge County, Kentucky. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Owensboro Messenger; January 1, 1929 WINSTON L.
