Died - Of whooping cough, on the 17th of April, 1881, Charlie Basham, infant son of H. B. Basham, aged 5 months and 17 days. Little Charlie is gone. Yes, God, who says "Suffer little children to come unto me," has taken him home. It seems hard to give him up; but we know by his short sojourn with us, that he was given to cast a ray of sunshine into the home and hearts of his friends only for a season. But while we lament the loss of one do dear, and know that his little form, with face so sweetly wreathed in smiles, lies mouldering in the grave; still we have consolation in knowing that his soul is basking in beams of light and love. Dear little Charlie is an angel now, why should we weep for him, when he is blooming so sweetly in Heaven. Our baby Charlie is not lost but "gone before." Gone to meet his little brother who crossed the "Dark Valley" some time before. Let us cease to think of the poor suffering body we laid in the grave, and "look to the ascended child". Let us think not upon what we have lost, but what our darling has gained. The Lord has gathered him home, and in so doing, He has but claimed His own; Truly, he was but a loan from the Lord to show forth His love for us. "Whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth." A feeling of thanklfulness should fill the souls of his parents, that they had been instrumental under God, of thus enlarging the boundaries of Heaven, of adding one more to the band of angels whose influence for love will be eternal. Therefore, let us say, "The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord."
